Finally, got a peek into Pandora’s box (read:world). For starters, Pandora is the fictional planet(it’s actually a satellite) where the much hyped movie ‘AVATAR’ is set. James Cameron’s dream project is certainly an out of the world experience, literally. The exotic landscape and flora-fauna does keep you spell bound throughout the length of the movie.
The story is run of the mill, nothing new. To summarize it in one line “Mankind is taking over an extraterrestrial planet for its own selfish interests and the natives turn hostile blaah blaah blaah”. If you are looking for a cerebral, intellectual plot which makes you think, this isn’t the movie for you. Nevertheless, the movie is outstanding and I would highly recommend it. The so called 300 million dollars spent on the film can be clearly seen on the screen. Stupendous graphics and breathtaking settings( I am running out of superlatives here!). Initially you do get drawn in by the locale and Na’vi race (indigenuous race of Pandora) but then , “ What happens when you are getting subjected to sheer brilliance over and over again for about two and a half hours”. Even continuous scenes of extraordinary graphics can take a toll on your sensory perceptions. That’s the problem, you get inundated with Cameron’s astounding world and are left gaping to get a hold of the beauty and detailing of this fictional world. Hence, towards the middle of the movie it does get a bit boring (read:less exciting), but then comes the final apocalypse. The bad guys descend on the native Na’vi to destroy their habitat and then the action begins. Adrenaline pumping all the way. Fantastic action and you feel being a part of it ( I watched in 3D).
The actors did their job well. Zoe Saldana( the female protagonist) was brilliant. First time saw myself getting attracted to a non human female( sounds creepy, but you will get the point when you see the movie). Sam Worthington, from where did Cameron get the idea of casting him as the lead actor? But anyways. he did fine. Watch out for him in "The Clash of Titans" (Greek mythology, yahoooo!) Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez were wasted. But no complains, the real stars were the CGI graphics or whatever new technology Cameron has purported to have used. 3D or no 3D, its worth a dekko.
My rating 3.5/5
